Chances are you grew up wearing dresses. Whether that be by choice or by force ( that school uniform we’d all rather forget) somewhere along the line you were put into a dress of some description and it either started a lifelong affair with them, or you’ve stuck to pants and skirts possibly from the trauma of said school uniform (we can change that around btw!).
I was definitely the former. I understood from a young age that the shapeless sack with removable red tie in Summer and full pleated (with a belt) navy wool tunic in Winter were made more for durability and the practicalities of a school day than any sort of fashion statement ( I also know the other reasons for uniforms but won’t go into them here as I want to keep this focused on fashion not conformity and rules J ).
Soo... Cue to many years later (and having tried all the trends and styles), having styled many women, and as an avid consumer myself , I’ve come to believe that the majority of what you have in your wardrobe should be working double time, which means, if you’re going to invest in a piece (and in this case a dress ) you want it to be able to transcend the seasons and give you numerous outfit options for many different occasions.
It’s really important to remember here that when you’re out shopping to take into consideration a few factors – you’re lifestyle which in turn will affect your fabric choice ( see this post for more on that) your body shape and what you actually will wear!
There are so many reasons to love a dress, with one of my top reasons being that without anything else you have a complete outfit sorted, meaning none of that matching my pants back with what top, or that top type of dilemma and on top of that, it’s also a perfect base to create a total look with your accessories, shoes, jackets and whatever other seasonal pieces you love.
And speaking of pieces that induce the feelings of love, if you’ve been following me for a while you will know I am a huge fan of the label AC The Collection, which produces an (elegant and Australian Made) six piece capsule collection that will work back with everything else you have in your wardrobe, whilst bringing back thoughtful detailing and chic tailoring. I was lucky enough to have been gifted an AC piece I’d had my eye on for ages – the St Germain Maxi slip –and decided to show you that when you have a piece you love that you can a. Wear it beautifully on its own and b. style it a multitude of ways ( well 2 in this instance) .With the weather in Australia seriously cool now, I’ve used more luxe textures for a lovely juxtaposition against the classic design of the dress.
